Scratch runs on pcDuino

Sratch is a programming language for everyone. Create interactive stories, games, music and art – and share them online.  We got scratch running on pcDuino!

We can install squeak-vm by doing “sudo apt-get install squeak”. However, if we do that, we end up with squeak-vm 4.7, which doesn’t support Scratch. So we need to download squeak-vm 4.0 source file ball, and compile it for pcDuino.

The following are the installation steps:

1. Install the necessary packages to compile squeak-vm 4.0.

$sudo apt-get update
$sudo apt-get install cmake libglu1-mesa-dev libasound2-dev libpulse-dev  uuid-dev libffi-dev libogg-dev libvorbis-dev libspeex-dev         libfreetype6-dev libpango1.0-dev libxml2-dev libgstreamer0.10-dev
$sudo apt-get install build-essential pkg-config
$sudo apt-get install libglib2.0-dev libpango1.0-dev libcairo2-dev libv4l-dev
$ sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-bin

$sudo apt-get cmake

2. Download squeak-vm 4.0 source files ball.

$ sudo wget
$ tar -xzvf Squeak-

3. To build Squeak-vm, we can enter into the directory, and create a bld directory, configure squeak, build squeak and install squeak.

$ cd Squeak-
$ mkdir bld
$ cd bld
$ ../unix/cmake/configure
$ sudo make
$ sudo make install
$ sudo cp -f -r /usr/local/lib/squeak /usr/lib/squeak

4. Get the scratch source file ball, and compile it:

$ sudo wget
$ tar -zxvf scratch-
$ make -C scratch/
$ sudo wget
$ sudo bash scratch/

5. After the scatch installation is done, we can run scratch by navigating Menu=>Programming->Scratch.

    There is an easier way to get Scratch. Just add backposts to the respoitory list and Scratch shows up on the manager list. Then just install it.
